At Blue Avenue, we have a wide range of bands for hire in Melbourne – from our professional jazz bands and wedding bands, to our covers bands. Our talented musicians play tunes from a wide variety of genres – from jazz and soul to funk, R&B, hip hop, rock, reggae or pop music.

With our affordable Band & DJ packages, it’s easy to hire a band for your next event in Melbourne. For a standard 4 or 5 hour event, a band with 4 or 5 musicians will cost anywhere from $3,000 - $4,000 + GST. For larger bands, each additional musician generally costs around $500 - $600 + GST.

With jazz bands you will find more flexibility in prices based on how many hours they are booked for. For example, a mid-week business function that requires a jazz band for 3 hours, with a saxophone, guitar and double bass trio (extremely popular!), will cost around $1,800 - $2,000 + GST. Or a cocktail event that only requires a Jazz duo for an hour or two might be around the $1,300 - $1,500 + GST mark. DJs can vary from $1,300 - $2,000 + GST for a 5 hour booking.

For weddings we recommend booking 6-9 months in advance. For corporate events, most businesses book a musician or band within 1-3 months of their function, with some exceptions booking well in advance (6-9 months) for Christmas parties in peak seasons such as November and December.

Of course! Our talented musicians will work with you to create a unique, memorable experience for your event, with a custom setlist that’s sure to set the right mood and tone.

All our bands, acoustic duos, DJs and solo musicians provide their own PA system, which is included in all bookings. Many bands do provide their own basic lighting system or will utilise the ambience of the venue’s lighting. A band’s PA system is typically suited for events of up to 150 people.

Jazz bands that include a singer will supply their own vocal PA system, and the instrumental jazz bands that do not include a singer will provide all necessary amplification.

For larger events in larger venues with over 200-300 people, it is recommended to utilise the venue’s in-house AV technicians to get the optimal sound quality. Many of the larger venues have contracted suppliers which can be booked through them.

If that is not the case, we can assist in sourcing an AV team that we work with and recommend. These services are all quoted separately – whether through us or the venue. In either case, we will work with the AV team to organise the band’s technical specifications so you’ll receive an accurate quote and also have the correct audio set-up for the band.

Many of our bands have a member that will perform basic MC duties that cover all of the announcements on the night and keep things running on track. Most charge around $300 - $500 + GST for this service.

We do recommend a family member or friend perform these duties to add a personal touch, however if that is not an option and you don’t want to engage a professional MC, the band option is a good middle ground.

Typically a band will perform up to 4 x 40 minute sets of music over a 4-5 hour booking and 3 x 45 minute sets for a 3-hour booking. During breaks the band will provide background music through their PA system.
